6th Grade Humanities Meeting

What was discussed (I apologize for the short-hand):

Underground railroad-Slave journal entries

A final chapter of Seedfolks with a new character
-Pam suggested: Could possibly be two characters that never meet in the book
-Symbol for each character
- Pull from a personal issue through the characters
-Not a country in the garden
-Could possibly be a mini-monologue (just four lines) and hold up their symbol

Using editing in Google Docs (Could copy and paste corrections)

Grammar
Appositives
Direct address
Commas
Run-ons

Alternative for book tests for Wordly Wise:
Analogies with the Wordly Wise words
Fill in the blank
Use the words that are on the test, without giving a word bank
Spelling test first and then the actual test
Definitions and all of the spelling without the word and ask them on some of the parts of speech

Rather them use the word well in context and know part of speech in relation to usage "You can't past tense an adjective!"

Add dialogue to simple sentences: formatting resources and examples aid in work quality

Watson's is a light hearted way of dealing with a serious issue

Harris and Under the Blood Red Sun are connected in that the protagonists are similar

"Harris-fest"

Grammar book: Exercises in English Loyola Press

Giggly grammar book is great for parts of speech

History through the Food, Feats, Fun, and other F words

Timberline night hike could turn into a historical walk that is active versus passive

An underground railroad scavenger hunt could be an activity

Flip the model and have the students be the leaders
