The eighth grade English faculty had an enjoyable and enlightening lunch. Among many insights, here are a few highlights:
Rewordify.com is an excellent resource, but context needs to be considered, just like when using a thesaurus
The play, 12 Angry Men could be a supplementary text to To Kill a Mockingbird
Atticus does not point out the discrepancy between Mayella's and Bob's testimonies in regards to "who dunit"
Joe is thinking about using a reenactment of To Kill a Mockingbird for his chapel on empathy (without giving away the end :)
Terry's kids will be embarking on a movie trailer assignment for Romeo and Juliet
Chase shared a creative writing piece inspired by Whirligig that asks students to continue the text or tell the story for. A different character's perspective.
What would an online curated archive of excellent resources for English at Punahou look like?
It would have to be organized, accessible, and relatable to specific content
Kai suggested Damon Speech could be a launching point for online curation that would be applicable for seventh and eighth, with sixth being able to contribute what resources they use for public speaking or performance
